Inscriptions & Imagery |
The emblem of the Boys Brigade appears at the top of the memorial and includes their motto 'Sure & Steadfast'. The top border has images of oak leaves, the bottom border has fruit, the left and right borders and the four corners have shamrocks. There is an image of a boy blowing a bugle at the bottom. The inscription reads: THE BOYS BRIGADE ______ IN HONOURED MEMORY OF 285 OFFICERS & OLD BOYS OF THE DUBLIN BATTALION OF THE BOYS BRIGADE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR ______ AND ALSO TO COMMEMORATE THE FACT THAT 2,500 PAST MEMBERS OF THE BATTALION VOLUNTEERED FOR ACTIVE SERVICE IN HIS MAJESTY'S FORCES ______ "They Answered the Call" |
