Inscriptions

The top of the building has the name Seamens Institute. There are two inscriptions on the front of the building:

Seamens Institute - A tribute to the war service of seamen 1914-1919

and

Leinster Memorial Church

It is not known if the Leinster Memorial Church stills survives but it was presumably dedicated to the military personnel and civilians lost on the R.M.S. Leinster when it was torpedoed in Dublin Bay 10th October 1918.

Casualties

This is general memorial to mercantile seamen and persons who served in the Royal Navy, whether survivors or victims of the war. Several hundred casualties with known Dublin connections are listed under the above links. Some of those who perished in the Leinster disaster are also listed.
