There are a number of ways to assemble the pieces of your project. There is a great range of metal and plastic fittings and fixtures for connecting wood. I deal with these in the section on 'Fastenings & Fittings'. Joinery is a traditional way of assembling a wooden project and it is still the neatest way. Over time a number of different kinds of joint have been designed. There are variations of each basic type, some of which I have included on each page aswell. Joints are designed to resist certain forces. Clicking on MORE below will bring you to a page on joint design which will explain all of this to you. You can see how joints are used in carcase and frame construction by clicking on the side-menu links of this page. Most joints, but not all, use glue or adhesive to improve their strength. The last section is all about adhesives and how to use them!
