1999
saw Mary much in demand as a session singer. She worked closely with
Declan Sinnott on his project with Ray Brennan, was guest of
Cork/Kerry supremos Sliabh Notes on their acclaimed Gleanntán
CD and sang on the Jimmy Crowley produced debut album of Corkman Kevin
Beale. Her most recent project saw her as a guest singer on the
soon to be released solo album of cult rocker and artist Tim Goulding
(all you hippies out there will remember his band Dr. Strangely Strange).
Currently, Mary is working with Sinnott on John Spillane's second
solo album.
Noel has also been busy
over the past twelve months. He played on the critically acclaimed
Music Network tour that also featured Mary Bergin, Joe
McKenna and Mick Conneely. This afforded him
the opportunity to pick guitar from Cork to Donegal and all points
between. One of his songs is included on the recent Cork showcase
album 'Hometown' and sees him in the heady company of such luminaries as Rory
Gallagher, Bass Odyssey and Freddie White.
Noel
and Mary also took part in the IMRO Songwriting Collaboration in
Killarney in November so expect some exciting new material as well as some
old favourites on Thursday, March 2nd when they return to Cobh.
For
those of you unfamiliar with the duo, Noel Shine and Mary Greene have long
been an important element on the Cork music scene. Throughout the 90s they
toured the US and Britain extensively. Their debut album THE LAND YOU LOVE
THE BEST was selected as one of the top5 folk albums of the year of it's
release by the IRISH TIMES. Their latest release, UNSPOKEN LINES - a CD of
largely self-penned contemporary songs and instrumentals has again hit the
mark touching the hearts of both critics and the public alike across the
global grapevine.
They recently gained a large body of new fans with their live radio
performances for Pat Kenny, John Creedon and Philip King and at the moment
are taking the songs on the road.
