IT SOOTHES MY BABY, August 9, 2001
Reviewer: A reader from new york
As a new parent, i want the best for my little girl. I
purchased this book and started practicing the massage on
my baby when she was about one month old. She really
enjoys it, it is like it reinforces the mother baby bond.
It explains very clearly what to do mostly by pictures
and it also has some thoughtful poems included in the
book. A great choice, i highly recommend it.
A loving

Frederick LeBoyer is the French obstetrician who
pioneered the "gentle birth" process with his
first book, "Birth Without Violence." Having
succeeded in getting babies born gently, into a dim,
quiet, warm environment, he has now taken the logical
next step with this book.
Baby massage is a practice begun in India, and simply
stated, involves sitting with the baby on your lap and
massaging "it" gently with oil. There is very
little text in this book - it's mostly photographs, of a
beautiful young Indian mother, sitting on the ground with
her baby on her outstretched legs. The photographs are
sequential and show the various moves - gently tugging at
opposite arms and legs, rubbing circular motions on the
torso, massaging tiny hands and feet, and so on.
The baby is clearly blissed out in the pictures, as yours
will be, too if you try this! And the very act of
spending that kind of time in close communion with your
baby will elevate your soul as well as the baby's.
I recommend this book to all new parents and give it as a
"Welcome to the world" gift when their babies
are born.

One of the best purchases I have made...,
October 17, 2002
Reviewer: Jill Smith
from Winston-Salem, NC, USA
This has been one of the best purchases I have made since
the birth of my son nine months ago. It has taught me how
to massage him in a way that has helped me gain his trust.
Not only does it relax him before bed, but it gives us
some precious bonding time that can't be matched! I sing
his favorite song while I do it, and someday, when he can
talk, I'm sure he will sing along. I have suggested this
book to all of my 'Mom' friends, and I urge all Mom's (and
Dad's) to buy this one!!

Book Description
Beginning in infancy, a child's vitality, self-confidence,
behavior, and overall healthy development may be greatly
enhanced by a few minutes of gentle massage by a parent
on a regular basis, claims the author of this
breakthrough guide to child and baby massage. A recent
article in Time magazine also suggested that infant
massage may be an important developmental tool. Here,
easy-to-follow instructions and illustrations provide
simple techniques for massaging babies, toddlers, and
young children. Busy parents will appreciate the
streamlined methods for performing effective massage in
just five minutes, even if they've never done it before.
Robert Toporek is creator and president of the Children's
Project, which offers massage and other services to
underprivileged children in the Philadelphia area. He
trained at the Esalen Institute and with Ida P. Rolf,
founder of the Rolf method of Structural Integration (see
Rolfing ™
and Structural
Integration). 150 two-color illustrations.

Massage and Fun, July 17, 2001
Reviewer: Cynthia L. Dabback

I have known Robert for 15 years. He has Rolfed (type of
massage, see Rolfing
™ and Structural
Integration) my husband, our twin girls 8 years old (since
they were 4 weeks old and of course me.
Reading this book has reinforced a lot of what I have
learned from Robert. But more importantly I learned a lot
more of what I didn't know. I have found this book easy
to read. I really liked the step by step instructions. My
girls really like trying different kinds of oils. The
drawings are helpful for those of us who don't know all
the parts of our anatomy, like me.
My children and I had a blast with this book.
I have twin girl's 8 years old. They couldn't wait until
I learned another part of their bodies to massage. They
would say me first! No me first!
The girls are both in gymnastics, competing this year at
Level 6. I give them their message before each
competition. It calms them down and focuses them on what
they need to do. The one says "look out world I am
ready now!" and leaps off the bed!
They give me messages. A few times for full 35 minutes. I
can't get that from my husband; and from talking to
others they say the same thing "my spouse will only
message me for 5 minutes, if I'm lucky." Massaging
my girls is so fulfilling. The loving care I can give
them is priceless. This book really makes a difference.
