Book Description
* A leading practitioner of Chinese medicine provides
Western therapists with a comprehensive, illustrated
handbook for the noninvasive treatment of childhood
conditions. * Provides alternatives to Western medicine
that are more tolerable to children and better for their
long-term health. * With over 200 drawings and
photographs to guide practitioners through the massage
treatments in the text. * A valuable addition to the
repertoire of any health practitioner.
A noninvasive alternative to conventional Western
medicine, Chinese pediatric massage provides
practitioners with greater flexibility in choosing a
successful course of treatment to improve the health and
energy of children without overwhelming their systems.
Chinese pediatric massage has fewer side effects than
other forms of treatment, making it more tolerable for
children, easier on their parents, and more effective in
improving the patient's long-term health.
This clearly illustrated guide is designed to give all
health-care providers--massage therapists, homeopathic
and allopathic practitioners, and bodyworkers--who know
the general concepts of traditional Chinese medicine with
the tools and knowledge they need to successfully use
Chinese pediatric massage in treating their patients.
Effective on children from birth through preadolescence,
Chinese pediatric massage is a valuable therapeutic
addition to the repertoire of any practitioner. It
considers how a child's energetic framework differs from
that of an adult, and accounts for these physiological
and anatomical differences through assessment, point
locations, and treatment.

I've found this book an excellent reference for xiao har
tui na (pediatric massage), however, it lacks
cohesiveness between treatments and formulas. The
formulas are in the back of the book, and they're in
English (rather than Chinese). The points, too, are in
English, making it somewhat difficult for students, like
myself, who know the Chinese names. Overall, I highly
recommend this book. Maybe the next edition will bring
the treatments and formulas together (and in Chinese
first, too - after all, it _is_ Chinese medicine).

Book Description
Therapists and caregivers always are looking for new
techniques for use with children with special needs.
Typically, there are concerns with what are the benefits
of massage, how to position the child, which strokes to
start with on a child, what conditions promote massage,
and what is the latest research on massage. Kathy Drehobl
and Mary Fuhr address these concerns in "Pediatric
Massage-Revised." They provide a holistic approach
to massage for children with special needs. Massage
offers many benefits to children with special needs.
These include: enhancing parent/child attachment and
bonding; increasing parental confidence; deepening
respiration; improving blood and lymphatic circulation;
enhancing awareness of body parts through visual,
tactile, and proprioceptive input; reducing
hypersensitivity to tactile input; increasing the quality
and quantity of phonation and vocalization; enhancing
gastrointestinal function; and providing general
relaxation for the caregiver and child. --This text

Helpful techniques for health-conscious parents,

more about me at Amazon.com) from Lago Vista

This book presents massage techniques for a variety of
common childhood complaints (colic, teething, cough, and
so forth) and I was amazed to find something so simple to
be so effective! As a society, we tend to run to the
medicine cabinet for every little thing that's not right,
and our "experts" (and advertisers) reinforce
that; but Ms. Mercati offers simple, easy-to-implement
suggestions that seem to provide relief of common
ailments (at least for my kids). The book is laid out
well and information is easily accessible, with clear
illustrations and well-written instructions. This would
even make a nice baby shower present for a new mom.
A parent's loving touch is healing in and of itself, but
this book makes yours more so.

Book Description
Tuina therapy used to be called massage in ancient times;
it has a long history in China and a collection of many
monographs. The therapy is safe, economical, simple,
effective, painless and without side effects, thus widely
accepted. Of particular importance is that infantile
tuina therapy relieves not only the infant's fears of
injection and orally administered drugs but also parents'
anxiety.
Drawing on thirty-some years of clinical experience and
the relevant literature, Luan Changye, a tuina
specialist, has compiled Infantile Tuina Therapy. The
book covers the commonly used manipulations and the
therapeutic points and indications in infantile tuina. It
is a comprehensive monograph on infantile tuina therapy
with substantial content and practical use.
The 60,000 word book has more than a hundred
illustrations.
