General Introduction

The Boys' Brigade was founded by Sir William A. Smith in Glasgow in 1883 and the first company in Cork was formed in 1897 attached to Holy Trinity Christ Church.

Aims & Objectives

The object of the Brigade is the advancement of Christ's Kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.

Programmes

The organisation is divided into 4 sections. Anchor Boys from 4 to 7 years. Junior Section from 8 to 11 years. Company Section from 12 to 15 years and Senior Section from 16 to 18 years. The object is achieved by means of weekly meetings which include Bible study, working for badges in different skills, drill, physical education, games, etc. Outdoor events such as visits to places of interest, cycle runs, weekend camps and when possible a summer camp also take place. Regional events with other companies are organised and our annual display takes place.

Volunteer Profile

The organisation is run on a voluntary basis by officer, both male and female who attend training courses to prepare them for their work.
