Tara Bingham
Tara Bingham is often considered to be one of the large group of traditional fluteplayers who emerged onto the traditional music scene in Belfast in the 1970s. Younger by a few years than most of the others, she had the advantage that her father, Leslie Bingham, was one of the few fluteplayers and musicians in general who kept the torch of traditional music alight in the dark days of the 50s and 60s, and through him she met and played with many musicians that helped develop her style and repertoire.
Not having made a commercial recording to date, Tara is extremely well regarded as a teacher, and has been a familiar face at the major summer and winterschools for many years, and also on the concert stage, where she plays along with her husband, renowned fiddle player Dermy Diamond.
