Denmark consists of a mainland peninsula called the Jutland Peninsula and 406 islands in all shapes and sizes, 325 of which are uninhabited. The many islands give Denmark a total coastline of 7,314km.The climate is influenced by Denmark's position between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.Since there is nowhere in the country that is more than 75km from the sea, there are few variations in climate between different places. Denmark is as far north as central Canada, but it seldom gets the same icy winters although there are usually snowy days every year.In the summer the sea is slow to heat up which means summer days are often quite cool. The most extreme form of Denmarks climate is its violent winds. In winter occassional snowstorms can block roads and prevent people going to school or to work. When storms happen at thesame time as high tides, there are sometimes floods. |
