When I meet my neighbour I usually say "Godt fiske!" instead of "Good morning!".Godt fiske means good fishing in Norwaegian.And a good catch means a good day for all Norwegian fishermen.

For thousands of years Norwegians have made a living from the sea. These fishermen are busiest from January to April, for this is when there are millions of cod around the Lofoten Islands of Norway.

We haul in tonnes of cod with our nets.When we return to the village,the cod is cleaned and packed, ready to be sold in markets around the world.Herring and mackerel are caught too, and many people work in the factories which smoke these fish and pack them into tins.
