If you are a keen fisherman, a day out 30 miles at sea on
"The Cricket" is a must. Types of species you may catch
include Coalfish, Cod, Ling, Conger, Turbot, Whiting and John Dory.
Conger eels, Cod and ling are a very popular target for boat
anglers because they offer a realistic chance for anglers of
hooking a monster fish. They also taste delicious! Conger eels
can be caught all year round because the outside temperature has
little effect on the water at that depth. They love to sit and
wait in holes in rocks or gaps in wrecks just waiting for their
meals. They do not move far for their food so get your bait right
close to the wreck of rock face. Expect to lose some tackle!
Ling, Cod and Conger can be caught all year round but the best
time for them is between June and September.
Rod
The equipment you will have to use will depend on the area you
will be fishing over but for general conger and ling fishing a
boat rod of 30lb class will do the job easily enough. If you are
looking for monster conger (100lb+) then you will more likely
need a 50lb class rod. Reel For Average Conger and other fish:
30lb Multiplier - Such as a 4/0 Penn Senator or a Shimano LD
reel. Monster Conger: 6/0 or 8/0 Multiplier - E.g. Penn Senator
