PLANTING AND THE MOON Farmers have for millennia, planted cultivated and harvested their crops in tune with the rhythms of nature. There is much folklore and many sayings and proverbs around but basically there is a simple formula that can be followed.: Plant crops that produce above the ground during a waxing moon. Plant crops that produce below the ground during a waning moon When the moon is in a Fire (Aries Leo Sagittarius) these are FRUIT days, best for harvesting vegetables and fruit. When the moon is in an Earth sign (Taurus Virgo Capricorn) these are ROOT days and give good yields and storage and are good for planting root vegetables. When the moon is in an Air sign (Gemini Libra Aquarius) these are FLOWER days and are good for sowing and tending flower plants and cutting flowersWhen the moon is in a Water sign ( Cancer Scorpio Pisces) these are LEAF days, good for sowing and tending leafy vegetables but not harvesting.
