CIRCUIT OF MUNSTER 2002

Based in senic Adare the plush surroundings of the Woodlands Hotel was rally headquarters, the rally counted as round 2 of the West Coast Championship.Stages one and two were cancelled and Anthoney o Halloran retired his manta leaving the way for local driver Ed oCallaghan in the Manta to lead the class,Allen and Bob were second quickest(in class) over stages 3&4 and were battling with John Rooney in his G3 Escort sadly Rooney was to retire.
As the lads came in for service they held second in class with an eye to the championship,a good finish here would bring valuable points. In service all had to be done was pick some tyres as the car was once again running superb Allen went for a harder compound at the back this may not have been a great choice although the day was warm and sunny the road temperature did not seem right for the tyres.Suddenly the boys position on the road was under treath from Willie mcCarthy in the Mk2 who had closed to within 8 seconds on the lads. On the penultimate stage the boys had a huge overshoot but were able to get the car going again fairley quickly, however they had dropped to third in class behind McCarthy now the pressure was on they were having to hold the car in third gear and keep an eye on the championship and a few seconds behind McCarthy.
It was decided to give it a bit of a go on the last stage and with a determained drive they took back 9 seconds and 2nd in class was the reward for their effort. It was great to be driving on a sunny dry Sunday and once again the Gascoigne Melotte Corolla finished well 16th overall and now lead the class championship by 9 points and top 2 wheel drive car. First in the co drivers standings and second in the drivers points.

IMOKILLY SINGLE STAGE

This was the big one the local event and the team came 12th overall and best local crew.

This is what the local paper said

Treacy and Fitzgerald best East Cork Crew

Allen Treacy and Bob Fitzgerald were the first East Cork Crew home on the recent Imokilly Single Stage Rally .The rally in the Shanagarry Churchtown South, Ballycotton area had a mixture of Hairpin bends tight twisty stuff and big open straights tested man and machine to the limit. The lads had a steady run on the first stage as they got used to a new gearbox however the stage was cancelled due to an accident. Stage 2 and the boys were now getting into the swing of things as they had the Gascoigne Melotte sponsored 2 litre Corolla on the limit the only problem was that the handbrake was not working so the tight junctions were causing a little trouble, This led to a spin at the hairpin near Cloyne to the delight of the spectators. As the light began to fade the boys put in a superb time 13 seconds up on their previous run over the stage, that time was good enough for 12th place overall. As the season draws to a close Allen and Bob would like to thank their sponsors without whom they would not be able to compete . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
