Rainbows

Boys' Comprehensive School  Ballymun

Rainbows is a short programme designed to look at, and address, the needs of children who have suffered loss either through the death of a parent, a brother, a sister or through parental separation.

Within the programme the following areas are given priority:  self esteem, feelings, change and my family, fears and worries, conflict, and healing.

The beauty of the programme is that a group of about five children meet once a week with an adult.  Within the safety of confidentiality they can tell their story, express their feelings, be listened to, and most importantly by learning from each other, they know they are not alone.

To date, since we began Rainbows in the school in 1991, about fifty pupils have taken part.

It is an essential programme for any school community.
