For anyone who has ever owned a boxer, it is easy to understand how no other dog can compare for temperament and personality. Tony was reared with Boxers and took an interest in showing around 1980. His first serious show boxer was Lady (Seekav Calpurnia).  Paula was reared with many different breeds but as soon as she bought her first house, one of her first purchases was a red male boxer called Oscar.

The kennel name Benton, was first registered in 1986 and although Robbie was the first Champion in 1996, the kennel had many successes prior to that. Limited to the number of boxers that could be kept and family commitments, there were still many Green Star winners carrying the prefix Benton. These included some who were a few points short of achieving their championship title including Benton Pimpernel owned by Paul O'Rourke, Benton Del Boy owned by Janice Bermingham and Benton Buckshee kept by Tony.

It was really only when Robbie (Ch Benton Rob Roy) and Sophie (Walkon Kookaburra) arrived at Benton Boxers that there began a strong commitment to showing. Following a move to Meath 1997, it became easier to keep more than two boxers and the kennel has continued to grow and produce quality Boxers for companionship and showing. Paula prefers to spend her time at home with the dogs or outside the show ring watching, whereas Tony prefers the exhilaration of the show ring both as an exhibitor and a championship show judge where he judges Boxers and all other working breeds.

We are very much aware that 90% of the puppies we breed at Benton Boxers go as family pets. Therefore, we try our best to breed only healthy boxers with excellent temperaments.
We carry out heart screening on all of our dogs to test for Aortic Stenosis under the
United Kingdom Boxer Breed Council Heart Scheme.
