Special milling machines are used to scrape a very thin layer of soil approximately 1 cm from the surface of the bog.

spoon harrow.jpg (13002 bytes) Next a spoon harrow turns the peat to help it dry in the sun.
The peat is usually dry enough in two or three days and is collected into ridges by a ridger machine. It is then delivered to the nearest power station to be converted into electricity or to the briquette factory.  Ridger.jpg (6496 bytes)
