one - seventh of the surface of Ireland is covered in boglands. Much
of this is
shallow and high up in the mountains of Ireland (Blanket Bogs). The great bogs of the
Central Midlands average six meters in depth ( Raised Bogs). Turf is also known as peat. For centuries turf has been used by Irish people as fuel for the home. |
