Bord Na Móna
During World War II there was a serious fuel crisis In Ireland as there was very little shipping in and out of the country. Turf became very important as a source of fuel as coal could not be imported into Ireland. In 1946 the Irish government set up Bord na Móna ( móna = Irish word for turf) to develop the boglands of Ireland.
