THE HISTORY OF KILLIMER FOOTBALL:

The fIrst reference to Gaelic football in Killimer occurs in 1882. This occasion preceded the inaugural foundation of the GAA by Michael Cusack two years later . Killimer played a local rival at an athletics meeting in Kilrush. A large audience attended this match. "The Saturday Record" newspaper states that on April 10th 1886 a football match was arranged between Killimer and Kilmacduane at Jack Reidy's field in Tullagower. The result was a draw.  The Killimer team has played many matches over the intervening years. Some matches have produced noticeable success.  The club has acquired new grounds for its benefit. "The History of. Killimer GAA 1884-1998" was published recently and has been the recipient of great acclaim.

At present there is a Field Committee within the Club with responsibility for the grounds. There are two grounds-men employed under the FAS Job Initiative Scheme. The grounds are a facility of major benefit to the youth of the parish. They are in use most of the evenings.
