An Garda Siochana 

The Irish Free State was e stablished in 1922. Kevin O' Higgins became Minister for Justice. He modelled himself on Michael Collins. One of his first moves was to set up an unarmed police force. The Garda Siochana or Civic Guard replaced the para~military Royal Irish Constabulary.   

Knock Garda Station (1924-1961) 

At the present time the Kennedy family reside in a two-story house at the comer in Knock village. In former times it was a Grocery -Public House belonging to the Noonan family. Later it became a temporary residence for Michael Twomey, N .T .and later still a Garda Siochana Station.

The first inspection by a Headquarters Officer in Knock station was on 3/12/1925.The inspection on that was carried out by Assistant Commissioner E.O Cugain. Strength of the station on that date was one Sergeant and four Gardai. The second visit by Headquarters Officer, E.O. Cugain to Knock was on 23/6/1928. The number at the station had remained unchanged since the last visit. 

Members of the Garda Siochana served the local community well. In 1961 it was decided to close Knock Garda Station. The last inspection by the Superintendent of Kilrush was recorded on 10/11/1961. 

Knock Garda Station closed on 5th  December 1961.
