0-16 Killimordaly:
2-7 |
Sarsfields
as good as secured their senior status for another year with this
hard earned victory over near rivals Killimordaly, at a game played
in Ballinasloe on Saturday 2nd June. In the end Sarsfields held on
despite the best effort of a gutsy Killimordaly side. Once
again contributed handsomly to the Sarsfields tally with 12 points 8
from the placed ball. Sarsfields had raced into a 7 points to
3 ponts lead before Killimordaly scoed the first of their 2
goals, after a hopeful high ball was flicked to the net. Sarfields
always seemed able to pull away when needed this was evident iin the
second half when Killimordaly scored a well taken goal to draw
level. Managing to tag on vital scores to see then over the line.

and general work rate. Elsewhere Cathal Murray,Kevin Hynes and

held out for victory over a gallant Sarsfields side at Duggan Park
Ballinalsoe on Saturday 26th May. Things didnt look good for
Sarsfields with Mullagh racing into a 1-6 to 0-2 lead after only 20
minutes played. However Kerril Wade netted straight after the
Mullagh goal to give Sarsfields a glimmer of hope. Points then
followed from Cathal Kelly and a Wade free. But a Mullagh brace
ensured they lead by 1-8 to 1-4 at half time. Sarsfields began the

and by the 46thminute lead 1-12 to 1-8. Sarsfields purple patch

3-9 Gort:
3-9 |
Sarsfields
recorded their first points in the senior championship after this
draw with Gort at St.Breandans Park Loughrea on Saturday 19th May
2007. It didnt look good for Sarsfields as with about 10 mins
remaining they trailed by 9 points and Kerril Wade had 2 failed
attempts from 21 yard frees. However 3 goals in a 5 min spell turned
the game on its head. Wade with 2 and Noel Kelly the other. Gort
lead by 1 point at the interval in what was a tense first half.
Within minutes of the second half Gort were reduced to 14 after
Tadhg Linnane was sent to the line after a high of the ball
challenge on Kieran Kelly. Gort then shot to life and rattled off
2-3 in quick succession, and the Sarsfields full back line looked in
trouble with Francis Madden pulling off a great double save. It
didnt look good with time running out before Wade and Kelly kick
started the revival. Gort had to score with the last puck off the
game which they did. In the end a draw was probably a fair result. Sarsfields
team: F.Madden, K.Dolan, A.McMahon, J.Burke, C.Murray, P.Garvey,
D.Murray, S.Kelly, G.McMahon, R.Quinn, K.Hynes, K.Kelly, N.Quinn,

0-15 Athenry:
1-19 |
Sarsfields
got their championship off on the wrong foot, going down to Athenry
at Ballinasloe on Sunday 6th May 2007. In the end Athenry pulled
away aided by the breeze and experienced attacker Eugene Cloonan.
Sarsfields only managed 2 points from play from Sean Kelly the rest
of the scores came from Kerril Wade frees. With one monster effort
in the first half from 100 yards out. Sarsfields went in level at
the break after the aid of the breeze. Athenry got the crucial score
after the break with Cloonan getting through for a goal. This gave
Athenry the cushion they required and with Cloonan getting to much
space in the closing minutes he scored at will, ensuring the Athenry
victory ending with a personal tally of 1-13. This was a gusty
Sarsfields performance put they fell short on the day to a more
physical and experienced Athenry team. Sarsfields team:
