About Us

Catholic Institute Athletic Club was formed in 1910 and the Club was divided along 5 sections ,Hockey, Squash, Tennis , Pitch & Putt and Cricket. Unfortunately Cricket is no more in Institute but may rise again some day...

The crest which you see on this site relates to the Hockey Section within the Club but the club also has a 2nd crest which represents all of the sports currently played in Rosbrien

The club based in Rosbrien Limerick and close to Young Munster ,Garryowen and Old Crescent Rugby Clubs has a long tradition as a Sporting Institution in Limerick

Significantly however the Club in 2003 officially opened their new State of the Art Astro turf Pitch.

Club Manager Tony Kelleher outlines the impact on the club

"The New Pitch has changed the face of the Club. Currently the Club have three squash courts - two of which are glass-back with balconies and seating, eight floodlit tennis courts with synthetic grass, a small gym, the astro turf and an eight hole pitch and putt course. There are big changes - the astro turf brings a lot of new members into the club and the hockey section in particular has been totally revamped.

We now have 180 children playing hockey - there are 120 youngsters here on Sunday morning for coaching and on Friday evening there is an additional 60 boys for Friday Night Coaching

But Hockey is not the only sport in Institute as on a weekly basis between 80-100 children are playing tennis – there are a few hundred people playing tennis on a regular basis all year round and the Club is alos the holder of the Limerick Open Week which attracts players from all over Ireland and beyond who combine to form one of Munsters most popular Senior Tennis Tournaments

The club Bar is an added incentive for visitors to the Greenfield's Road facility.

"The club actually opens 9.30 in the morning and courts and pitches can be booked up to 9.30 at night. The Bar is open from 7.00 onwards and during the day on Saturday and Sunday."

As the finishing touches are completed ahead of the official opening, the club are not resting on their laurels. The club manager said that renovations to the tennis courts were planned for the New Year and he pointed out that their centenary is also on the horizon.
