In Dunmore East . . .

Dunmore East offers a variety of sites and activities for visitors. Most are a short walk from Church Villa B&B. We will be happy to arrange Golf (see our "Golf" section for more details), horseback riding, fishing, sailing, angling and other activities. Tennis and swimming facilities are nearby as well. We also have bicycles available upon request for our guests with limited availability.

Scenic Walks & Sites:

Extensive woods surrounding the village and public park are perfect for beautiful walks. Nearby Church Villa's entrance is a gate that leads to beautiful gardens overlooking the estuary. Steps are cut into the rock making a path that leads to sheltered coves and the cliffs surrounding the harbour. Here lies the nesting and breeding area for Kittywakes. This is most unusual as these birds normally do not nest in an area so close to man. You are rewarded with panoramic views of the beach, the harbour, the spectacular red sandstone cliffs engulfing the Dunmore East Golf course and the Hook Lighthouse in nearby Hook Head, Co. Wexford.

The Harbour:

Dunmore East boasts a sheltered fishing harbour. Each year sees more & more visiting yachts moored in the coves. As the harbour is a working fishery, our local trawlers bring in delights of the sea making our restaurants a great place to sample fresh seafood. Evenings offer friendly pubs, fabulous restaurants and lively entertainment.

Dunmore East Adventure Centre:

1997 winners of Waterford Co. Enterprise Award for tourism and leisure. The Adventure Centre offers a wide variety of activities and is open all year. Waterford City:

Ten miles North of Dunmore East lies the medieval city of Waterford. The Waterford Harbour is ancient dating back to Viking times! Waterford was founded in 853 by the Vikings who erected the extensive city walls, parts of which are still standing today. Reginalds Tower, erected in 1003, is newly restored and contains Waterford's Civic Museum.
Waterford is home to the world famous Waterford Crystal. In addition to the tour, you'll find audio visual presentations, a restaurant, and a gallery. It is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m April - October. Limited hours the rest of the year. Phone (051)373311
Waterford also offers a varied selection of boutiques, antique shops, craft studios, restaurants, art galleries, live theatre, museums, cathedrals and fun festivals. We will be happy to provide our guests with a detailed visitors guide of Waterford City.

Hook Head Lighthouse:

Opposite and clearly visible from Dunmore East lies the Hook Head Peninsula, Co. Wexford. Perched on red sandstone it is, with almost certainty, one of the oldest lighthouses in Europe, dating from 1172. Paths skirt the coast and attract seabirds and seals. This is an easy half day to full day trip from Church Villa B&B.
