Westlife are an Irish band and three of its members Shane Filan,Kian Egan and Mark Feehily come from Co. Sligo where we are situated. We are very proud of Westlife and wish them all the best. Their single "Flying Without Wings" was the last Number One of the 20th Century and the First Number One of the 21st Century.

The following excerpts are from short articles we wrote about music There are many types of Music such as Jazz, Pop, Rhythm and Blues, Rock and Roll, Country and Western and Classical. There have been many great composers such as Franz Schubert, Austrian (1797 -1828), Franz Liszt, Hungarian (1811 -1886), Johannes Brahms, German(1833 -1897) and Ludwig Van Beethoven , German(1770-1827).

In modern times there is more interest in pop and rhythm and blues. Many bands today take the music from legendary groups such as the Beegees and adapt it . There are now classical music stations. Popular modern bands include B*witched, U2, Boyzone and many more.

The Music industry is growing and expanding all the time. Music in Ireland has always been very popular and we have our own brand of traditional music. Latin music has become more popular recently.

Many of today's popstars such as Robbie Williams, Geri Haliwell(Spice Girls), started off in a band and then decided to branch out on solo careers.

The rock stars and popstars today are very different to those of the 30's and 40's . Then Jazz swept the world and many new styles of dancing accompanied this era. Nat King Cole was a very famous singer. In the late 50's, 60's,70's through to the 80's Rock and Roll ruled the world. The infamous Elvis Presley was very popular until his death in 1977. The 80's saw the rise of artists such as Boy George, David Bowie , Sting and the Police.

S Club 7 got a T.V. Hits award for the best team show in 1999. There are There are five members in Steps. Their names are Claire, H, Lee, Faye and Lisa. We love their songs and music.
