The beginning:

The County Tipperary Ryan Youth Orchestra is a member of The Irish Association of Youth Orchestras. It caters for young musicians from all over County Tipperary and neighbouring counties.

It was Founded by The Ryan School of Music which had it's beginnings in 1979. Since 1981 Ryan School of Music Orchestras have successfully participated in National and International events and performed almost annually at Music Festivals and Concerts in Germany, France, Switzerland, Scotland and Denmark, where it represented Ireland in The European Youth Orchestras Festival in Copenhagen.

I.A.Y.O. National Award:

In 1998 it was the recipient of an I.A.Y.O. National Award presented by The President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, at The National Concert Hall, Dublin, where it again performed in February 2000 and received the Award for the second time.

USA Trip:

During it's most recent trip abroad, it visited Boston and New York and performed at five concerts in Connecticut.

Rehearsals & Concerts:

Members ages range from twelve to twenty plus with guest musicians taking part on special occasions.
Members are mainly students attending The Ryan School of Music and Music Schools, Colleges or private teachers. Auditions are held annually. The required standard of musicianship is determined by the Director. Rehearsals are held on Fridays from 7.30p.m. to 9.30p.m. at St. Ailbe's School, Tipperary.

Concerts are held throughout the year in Churches, Schools and Concert Halls.

Funding:

To facilitate the activities of The County Tipperary Ryan Youth Orchestra requires the provision, maintenance and transport of expensive essential orchestral instruments and equipment, professional services, administration, storage, music and related expenses. These needs are met by The Ryan family Music business helped by an Annual Fund-raising Patron's Draw , the proceeds of Concerts, an annual membership subscription and contributions from the I.A.Y.O. Rehearsal facilities and funding for same are provided by South Tipperary V.E.C. and St. Ailbe's School, Tipperary.
