Cork (1803)Almost 200 years old, the present modern church was enlarged and renovated, revealing the old beauty of St. Mary's Church. This was done in 1982, under the supervision and guidance of the late Very Rev. Edward Fitzgerald P.P. of Glounthaune. Cork (1982)The Church of St. Joseph was opened and dedicated by Bishop Michael Murphy on 27th November, 1982. The day was fine and a packed church heard the Bishop refer to the people of the Island, who in olden times were faithful to the Mass even though many of them had to walk miles to get to the church in Glounthaune. The people of Little Island are very proud of their new church which is a simple building designed to seat around 350.
