Coalfish:

Where: All along the quay structure.The smaller specimens hug to the quay wall, the larger ones stay further out.
Bait: Mackeral
When: All year round, with larger specimens caught during the colder months i find.
Tackle: 1/0 size aberdeen's

Codling:

Where: All along the quay structure
Bait: Peeler/soft crab or Lug worm (although i have seen a 6lber caught on sandeel this winter by the first Bridge)
When: These are winter visitors: november- early march (depending on temperature)
Tackle: 1/0 size aberdeen's

Conger Eel:

Where: All along the quay structure, your best bet is to hug to the quay wall.The first bridge is excellent for them though

Bait: Mackeral head works best, preferably fresh

When: From may onwards ,they move out around late october. The best time to catch these is after dark

Tackle: 6/0 hooks, 30lb gut. I usually catch them beneath first bridge after dark in the summer with a nylon clothes line :) with a 6/0 size hook, 3oz lead and a mackeral head. I caught my first conger at the first bridge using this method he was about 25lb's.

Dab:

Where: The left hand side of the quay, near the heritage centre is best

Bait: Mackeral, Stale lugworm

When: All year

Tackle: 1size aberdeen's

Dogfish:

Where: Everywhere

Bait: Any fish - type baits

When: All year

Tackle: size 1 aberdeen's

Flounder

Where: again left hand side near the heritage is best (there is a large sandpatch there)

Bait: Peeler crab, mackeral

When: All year, with the larger ones in winter

Tackle: 1/0 size aberdeen's

Garfish

When: May-September, following the mackeral shoals in

Bait: Mackeral

Where: All along the quay & waters edge

Tackle: Float rig , or you can spin for them with feathers but this method will get you mostly mackeral

Mackeral:

When: May- september

Bait: Mackeral

Where: All along the Quay & waters edge

Tackle: Spin for them with Feathers and a1oz weight. Or you can use a float rig with a strip of mackeral

Mullet:

When: May- September

Bait: Small Ragworm, Bread

Where: Along the quay wall

Tackle: Float rig, but remember to use a light float beacuse the mullet bite very softly, and its hard to detect with a large float

Pollack

When: All year Round

Bait: Mackeral, Sandeel, Ragworm

Where: Smaller ones hug the wall, with some larger specimens further out - about 2-3lbs
