Barnie's
Corner of Nassau
Street and Dawson Street
(part of Eason's)
My
fourth or fifth visit to Barnie's (this outlet situated in Eason's
of Nassau Street) was reasonable if unremarkable. My first impression
of this little coffeehouse was good - a smile from the barista
and the sign saying that the Coffee of the Day was Kenya AA
- I always like knowing what I'm drinking! At least I don't
have to ask Barnie's what beans they use (see Bewley's
review). After deciding that I'd settle for a small (though
generous sized mug, no paper cups in this branch) cappuccino
I was attracted by the sight of a 'double choc' cake. I was
pleased with the coffee, less so with the cake. The cappuccino
was nicely foamy with just a little chocolate on top. I'm so
used to getting designs (hearts, trees or even the coffeehouse
name) on cappuccinos and lattes now that the sight of a drink
without one is almost a disappointment! The cake was a little
dry and chocolate lovers should give it a miss as although the
topping is, indeed, chocolate, maybe even double chocolate,
it is thoroughly unremarkable. It's a quiet little venue and
as it's situated in a bookshop it would
be a nice location to while away an afternoon flicking through
some books liberated from the shelves just below. A nicer experience
overall than the outlet in Eason's of O'Connell Street.
