The Dome
Top Floor, St.
Stephen's Green, Dublin 2
Situated at the top
of St. Stephen's Green Centre with wonderful views over Dublin
City this very pleasant open plan restaurant has a large number
of tables separated by plants and statues which provide a little
cover from the sun, coming through the glass ceiling. Regular
live music, especially at weekends, adds to the atmosphere.
The restaurant is self-service,
with two counters; one provides hot food and desserts, the other
serves salads and cold foods. The variety of food is impressive
with a large number of main courses available, as well as breakfast
until 12 midday. A wide range of home made pastries and cakes
(from their associated bakery, Mardi) are guaranteed to tempt
all but the strictest weight-watcher. Coffee and tea are quite
basic (black or white only); wine is available by the glass
and the usual soft drinks are present with some freshly squeezed
juices.
The atmosphere is very pleasant,
especially with the music playing - the only drawback is if
you're unlucky enough to get a table in full view of the sun,
when it can get very hot indeed. The staff are reasonably friendly
though not the best I've encountered.
Overall The Dome succeeds in
providing a good quality lunch and coffee break venue, though
suffers by being a little expensive in comparison to other restaurants
of a similar calibre. It tends to be very busy at weekends but
is a good mid-morning location.
