Allihies Village Allihies is located on the south-western tip of the Beara Peninsula and offers the visitor stunning views, the fabulous sandy Ballydonegan Strand and warm and friendly people to greet you and make your stay a memorable one. There is an excellent restaurant in the village, and 3 pubs, offering traditional music during the summer season and on Bank Holiday Week-ends. This picturesque village is steeped in history and has its own mine Museam giving details of the mining era that was in the area. There is also a large well equipped children's playground that is easily supervised, while Mums & Dads relax and sample the sights etc. alongside. Closeby is the Cable Car to Dursey Island, the only one of its kind to cross water in Western Europe. This is an experience not to be missed and the reward of tranquility on the Island itself, along with the stunning scenery, will more than make up for any misgivings you may have about taking the trip. There is also a wonderful sandy beach at Garnish, between Allihies and Dursey. To gather more information on the Beara Peninsula, log onto bearatourism
