Things to do around Allihies Walking Walking the Beara Way is great option to sample the delight that Allihies has to offer, with many local loop routes located here at our front door and the in surrounding areas. A walk to Castletownbere, Ireland's largest white-fish port is 6 miles by mountain walk and 12 miles away by car This is the nearest small town to Allihies and is an interesting place to explore during you stay. Allihies Mine Musuem A visit to our very own Allihies Copper Mine Museum is well worth a visit. It is located here in the village five minutes walk from our houses and as well as the Museum has a cafe serving the best of local cooking. The Museum shows you what life was like here in Allihies when over five thousand people used work in the coppermines. Driving Allihies is ideally based to drive the Ring of Beara, this is about a three hour drive taking you to Eyeries, Ardgroom and onto the town of Kenmare from here you go up over the the Healy Pass and down into Glengarriff, coming back to Allihes via Adrigole and Castltownbere. This can be done in about three hours but but most people take the full day stopping off along the way for lunch and to explore the various villages and views. Diving: In recent times we here in the coppermines have been host to many Dive groups from around the country They are many interesting dives to be done near here. If you are on your own or need help Ritchie in Cluin Dive which is based here in the village is a great help. For those looking for more detailed information on Diving our friends in the Dublin university dive club have an interesting article here Fishing and Sea-Angling: We have been delighted here in The Coppermine Villas to play host to fishing groups and Sea Angling clubs from the United Kingdom who have come to spend time fishing our shores. In order to cut down on Airport Costs,We have given them the facility to Post over there fishing rods to us ahead of there visit. There is fantastic fishing from the rocks here in the village and at Dursey sound which is about 4 miles away. I have linked a very good website here which covers Sea-Angling in the area. For those more interested in off shore fishing we can organise boat rental and all fishing gear for you Dzogchen Beara: For something completely different we recommend guests to call to Dzogchen Beara which is a Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Centre under the spiritual direction of Sogyal Rinpoche. The views from this centre are amazing and you do leave the place with a sense of calm and well being .We here in the Copermines are the main Accommodation providers to Dzogchen Beara for the annual retreat which is held every July To gather more information on the Beara Peninsula, log onto Beara Tourism
