Elephant -

The Christmas tour was a fantastic success with elephant getting a great reception from the crowd at Dolans in Limerick and The Sugar Club in Dublin as well as another amazing, sold out Lobby gig.

Even though our illustrious songwriter/singer/guitar man Michael John has left for Glasgow for a little while, elephant have still been keeping the music alive! The support gig in Dolan's of Limerick was great fun for the 'four piece elephant' and a big thanks to Niall Connolly for that one. The UCC Live Music Society gig in Cypress Avenue, Cork was a great success with a big crowd and a good reception from everyone there - special thanks to Cormac for organising that one! De Barra's of Clon was the last gig with the full compliment of elephant before the Christmas shows.

Thanks to everyone in RTE Radio Cork and especially the John Creedon show for the great experience the band had playing live on National daytime radio! Playing to over 300,000 live was a bit of an experience but we did ok!

A huge thank you to all those who made it to the album launch in The Granary Theatre on Friday 30th April. It was a very special night for the band and a sincere thank you to all those who helped make it possible. The Tour to Limerick, Killarney and Dublin was a fantastic success and

The album was finally completed at the end of March with final mixing and mastering done by Ruairi in Killarney with the band paying a final visit to put down some harmonica and handclaps! A date of April 30th is set for the release of the album in Cork with a Dublin date in the Temple Bar Music Centre on June 12th.

Thanks to everyone who made it to the Cypress Avenue gig on a wet and windy Thursday night, the 18th March last. Photos from the gig will be posted soon and news of a summer gig in this new Cork venue is on the way.

A big thank you to everyone who made it to the Lobby gig on the 24th January last. It was an absolutely fantastic gig for everyone in the band and it was great to see people enjoying the gig. The gig was a sellout and unfortunately some people couldn't get in but don't worry, the album launch isn't too far away! The gig was a huge boost for us before the final push to finish the album so thank you again to everyone who made it on the night.

elephant would like to say a big thank you to Niall Connolly for the support gig in The Lobby on Sunday 21st December. Niall played a great gig on the night and it was a priveledge to play support to such a fantastic performer. elephant played a gig in the Spailpin Fanach in December as part of the Showcase Cork series of gigs. There is a website at http://www.showcasecork.com/ which is well worth a look to check up on future gigs as well as information on other local bands in Cork.

After an amazing week of sell out shows and great fun for everyone involved 'The Volitional Brain' finished up on Saturday night last. It was a fantastic success and the only unfortunate thing was that so many people had to be turned away because the shows were sold out. There are to many people to mention here but a massive well done must go to director John McCarthy who did an amazing job. Also thanks to Ger Barry on sound who did a fantastic job all week. Last but not least, Ciaran and MJ for bringing 'The Brain' to life!!

A sneak preview of one of the tracks on the forthcoming album was played twice last week on RTE Radio 1's 'Late Date' Show. Many thanks to Mark McClelland for his help in getting that track on the air! elephant also did an interview and played some songs on Cork Campus Radio last week.

elephant began recording of the album at the end of October in Killarney. The four days were a great success and everyone is looking forward to finishing the album in the New Year. A release date of sometime in March 2004 is planned.

elephant had a very successful few days in Dublin at the start of October. The two gigs went extremely well and the band got a really good reception. The Sugar Club in particular was a fantastic venue to play in and many thanks to Niall Connolly for giving elephant the opportunity to play in the venue. elephant hope to support Niall in the Lobby on Sunday December 21st so check back here for more info about that gig.
