This weekend will see the club participating in the Wicklow 200 (km) with up to ten cyclists heading to the event. The event will start at 7.00am from the basketball arena in Tallagh. This is not a fun event and each participant is required to be in top shape with a well-maintained bike. Safety helmets are a must for an event like this as is well working brakes. There are eleven hills to glory for the participants, which include the Sally gap(1650ft, 5 miles), Wicklow Gap(1600ft, 5 miles) and Slieve Maan(1500ft) which are category one climbs. The following week will see the club participating in the two day Border Trek that will consist of 100 miles per day. The club will be having a meeting at 8.30pm on Tuesday next to discuss the final arrangements for the event.
The continuing Sunday morning spins will continue as usual and will be leaving Emyvale at 9.30am for those not participating in the Wicklow 200 (km). The Tuesday and Thursday spins will be leaving Emyvale at 6.45pm as usual. These spins are a perfect chance for new cyclists to take part in low distance runs.
The club would like to offer its condolences to the Mc Kenna family on there recent bereavement of Chris Mc Kenna who was a grandmother of Seamus McElory who passed away in woverhampton on Saturday last. Funeral to take place on Saturday morning, with remains coming to corricrin on Friday at 7.00pm.
Racing News
The club was in Bainbridge at the weekend and had another successful day. Connor Murphy had an excellent race to finish 5th in the Senior A category. In the Bs, Cs, Vets and Junior category Paul Brady came home in 5th O/A and 1st Junior with Michael Mullholand a close 7th Junior.
The under age cyclists put in another great performance with garth Mc Adam 4th in the under 14s. James Kane came home in 6th with Michael Mc Aree 7th and barry Hughes 8th. Stephen Mc Donnald had an excellent race in the under 12 category to finish in 4th.
The club will be holding this years under 23, Vets and Junior All Ireland road racing championships on Sunday the 14th of July. The events main sponsor will be McElvaney Motors. There has been a lot of work going on over the past few months to ensure the successful running of the event. The club would appreciate it if every one in the club could continue to help in any way they can and make themselves available for marshalling on the day. There will be a meeting on Tuesday next at 9.00pm to discuss further arrangements for the event. The sign on for the event will take place at the Monaghan Harps complex.
To remind club members there will be a touring club meeting on Tuesday night at 8.30pm followed by a meeting at 9.00pm to report on the continuing arrangements for the All Ireland Championships.
