The Post You may not like to see brown envelopes coming, but children love the excitement of the post arriving.
Ask them to pick up your letter. Brown envelopes: Business Pretty envelopes: letters, cards ... Look at the address. Is it typed or hand written? Look at the logos. Do they recognize them? Open the letter together and see what's inside. Keep the old envelopes for your child(ren) to draw on. Parts of chatty letters can be aloud. Talk about letters beginning with 'Dear__________' and ending with the writer's name. Show your child(ren) the bills and point out the important information. Explain that all letters are not read fully; some letters we only pick out the information we think is essential and other letters, like personal ones, we read over and over again. When you write to a friend or relative: Let your child(ren) draw a picture to put in with the letter. This activity is from the Clare Family Learning Project Parents' Pack.
