FENLOE INVESTMENT CLUB

Starting Steps:

1. Gather like-minded people interested in starting a club
2. With the help of ProShare, establish club rules and guidelines
3. Decide how much to invest in the club each month and start acquiring shares when you have enough
4. Meet on a regular basis to discuss portfolio performance and decide which shares to buy or sell

   START YOUR OWN CLUB:

  • Why start an investment club?
An investment club is a great way to socialise with family or friends on a regular basis, to share investing and business knowledge, and to make some money!

  • Is it difficult to run a club?
No. There's very little administrative work involved (unless you are the webmaster!) and this can be shared out between members. If you get a manual from ProShare, it explains the duties involved in running a club and how to get started.

  • How much do you invest each month?
It varies from club to club. For our club, the investment amount is £50 monthly, an amount unanimously agreed on. It could range from £20 to £100 a month depending on your circumstances!

  • Do I need to have much investment knowledge?
Not at all. The idea of a club is that everyone shares the knowledge about investing or business with each other, each person having different strengths. Over time, each member will become much more educated in investing and this helps the club become more successful.

  • Where do I start?
Firstly, get a group of people - family, friends, neighbours, colleagues - who are interested in setting up a club and informally decide if you wish to proceed and how you might run it.
Next, the best option (which made our setting up much easier) is to contact ProShare - the organisation set up to provide information and news to investment clubs. By joining ProShare, you will receive a comprehensive manual, clearly describing how to set up the club properly. You will also get the Dividend magazine, packed with news and information about club guidelines and typical management problems. See our links page for web sites to help you start.

  • How do I create a club web site?
This can be done quite cheaply and easily, even if you have little Internet experience. Using graphical web site creation tools, such as MS Frontpage or Netscape Composer, a web site can be written almost like a Word document. We have included a handy guide with links and tips to get started on our contact us page.
