LocatioNet
Company Profile
LocatioNet operates internationally from offices in the USA, Germany,
Israel, and Brazil. The company has a track record of over thirteen
years in the location based services arena developing integrated middleware
for wireless location based services. The company’s flagship product
is the LocatioNet PlatformTM, a middleware for Location Based Services
(LBS).
Complementing it are the LocatioNet Geographical Information System
(GIS) Engine and a set of both business and consumer applications.
Ericsson selected LocatioNet as a global partner for location-based
services middleware, GIS Engine and leading edge value-add vertical
and mass-market LBS applications. Ericsson resells and provides technical
support for the LocatioNet Platform. The company has seen full commercial
sales of its platform in the Americas, Europe and Asia and trials with
cellular operators worldwide.
Ericsson also promotes LocatioNet’s applications through Ericsson
Mobility World’s sales channels. Some of LocatioNet’s 3G
rich media applications have been selected by Ericsson and installed
in over 50 WCDMA and EDGE test systems, and have been successfully used
in 3G commercial handset trials and WCDMA/EDGE demos.
Technology
LBS Middleware
The LocatioNet PlatformTM serves as a service delivery middleware engine.
It integrates content, applications, position determination and GIS
technologies to fulfill user requests over a variety of mobile handsets.
The platform offers user provisioning, personalization and privacy management
modules. It seamlessly integrates with the operator's existing backbone
network, user provisioning, billing, and Operation and Maintenance Application
Part (OMAP) systems.
The LocatioNet Platform includes an open Application Program Interface
(API) and a Software Developers Kit (SDK), which grant operators, Application
Service Providers (ASPs), and independent developer’s freedom
in using platform resources such as maps positioning and content to
develop distinctive location based services. LocatioNet also provides
a set of applications, for both the consumer and the corporate markets.
GIS
The GIS engine supports geocoding, mapping and routing. Maps are provided
in vector, raster and aerial map formats, and are adapted to the capabilities
of the specific mobile device being used. A set of geocoding and reverse
geocoding mechanisms is provided. Routing capabilities support a variety
of routing criteria, “turn by turn” instructions and route
coordinates, allowing the middleware to superimpose routes on any map.
Consumer Applications
LocatioNet
MyMap
LocatioNet MyMap is an integrated suite of graphical location-based
service (LBS) applications. Designed for the latest color handsets supporting
MMS, WAP and J2ME, MyMap allow users to view their location, locate
and navigate to points of interest, and interact with friends in their
immediate vicinity, using detailed color maps or aerial photos.
LocatioNet
InfoCommerce
InfoCommerce is a location-based consumer information retrieval and
business advertising service. The application enables users to actively
search maps for nearby entertainment opportunities and shopping bargains
(Pull mode), while allowing businesses to advertise merchandise and
aim sales promotions at mobile subscribers in their vicinity, according
to personalized preferences (Push mode).
LocatioNet
POI and Events Finder
LocatioNet offers a suite of text based applications in SMS and WAP
for Point of Interest (POI) and event searching, suitable for existing
mass-market handsets. POI Finder is a classic Yellow Pages application,
facilitating finding nearby points of interest, such as ATM machines,
hotels, parking garages, restaurants movie theaters and more. The Event
Finder easily locates nearby parties, concerts and exhibitions that
take place at a desired place, date and time.
Corporate Applications
LocatioNet
Fleet and Workforce Management
LocatioNet's Fleet and Workforce Management application combines traditional
fleet and workforce management services with advanced cellular features.
Managers gain control over the mobile workforce by assigning tasks,
sending open orders and communicating with their staff directly using
their mobile phones. Workers in the field achieve greater efficiency
and productivity with the help of graphical location and navigation
aids. They may receive instructions and updates from dispatchers via
SMS, view their current location on a map (fully utilizing MMS capabilities),
locate nearby points of interest, and send job status reports, while
controlling their privacy settings using WAP.
