I found this nice page with directions on
changing your Win2K boot splash screen - this involves playing with windoze kernel files and is definitely not for the faint hearted. I changed mine at home and at work.
There is also a rather large boot logo gallery if you don't feel like creating your own.
*edit* Just looking around the boot logo gallery - a lot of borderline pr0n so be careful if you are at work or your granny is wondering what you're doing so close to that beige TV with the big remote.

For you MAME players with full romsets
I recommend a game called Ganbare Ginkun - Much cartoon nonsense and frantic button pummeling action - don't worry if you no-speaka-the-lingo, most of the game is pretty simple - usually a combination of stick waggling and button pounding... (Wait, isn't that all arcade games?)
...and before you even think of asking, no I cannot give you the rom.
*edit* I have also been playing a lot of Disco No.1 - highly addictive night club dance floor brawl / box drawing romp.

Beware the moggy-wai!
This is as bad as photoshopping gets. If you're just getting text don't worry, you're not missing anything...

Some of you
will know the theremin from the amazing Dr Who theme tune. This instrument made the spooky whistling tone that made the theme famous.
The BBC have made a downloadable theremin for you to play with - move your mouse cursor around the screen to affect the tone. Available for Windoze and MacOS.

group: comp.sys.sinclair

subject: Of Memcards and Men.
My brother came up to me today moaning about his PS2 memory card going to Silicon Heaven. My reply went something like this "Listen, sonny - I'm from back in a day where a 'memory card' consisted of a BASF C60 tape containing a collection of unfinished 8-bit classics in Multiface snapshots. Games and machines were a religion. Commode lusers didn't understand Manic Miner. Speccy gods couldn't get the whole 'brown' gig. Dizzy gamers were beaten up. You'd go to the shop to buy a game and you couldn't be sure it would work when you got it home. You'd spend hours with friends sitting around an overheated black box manipulating control instruments so shakey you'd be afraid to shift your arse in the seat - if you were to use a Quickshot II after one of them PlayStation joypads the recoil would dislocate your shoulder. I remember buying magazines that told you exactly how to control every aspect of my computer - you buy magazines which tell you how to control every aspect of Cheat Mode.
I guess what I'm saying is - I grew up in the fucking bronze age, though I consider it a golden age, so don't moan at this jaded bast about your industrial age concerns."
He walked away muttering about how I am a weirdo. I really have to stop being high around my family.
