Chinese Sweet Plum

Chinese sweet plum

Sageretia is a genus of tender shrubs, native to central and southern Asia and to the mildest regions of northern America. The species usually used for bonsai growing is Sageretia theezans, spontaneous in the south of China. Since it has a hot habitat, it is grown as indoor bonsai tree in colder mild regions. It has thin branches, sometimes twiggy, and small glittering leaves. In summer it produces little white flowers, followed by bluish berries. The bark flake off in plates, creating a visual effect similar to the one of Plane tree or Trident Maple trunk.
