Water Softeners
An ion-exchange type water softener is the most effective means of removing limescale from domestic water supplies. To find out how they work click here.
We can supply and install water softeners made by most manufacturers; however, we recommend and install General Electric products. To find out more about the models we supply click here.
The general configuration of a water softener involves a multi-cycle control valve mounted on a vertical cylinder (called a mineral tank) and beside it stands a tank for holding salt. The control valve varies depending on the job it has to do and of course, the manufacturer. There are various heights and dimensions for this equipment. Other configurations involve the mineral tank standing inside another tank called a "cabinet". Looking at it from the outside it appears to be a single tank with a lid. The salt is stored inside the cabinet around the mineral tank. A cabinet type water softener comes in various dimensions and shapes. We generally install "side by side" water softeners; however we can supply 'cabinets' as well. The price is slightly higher.
The size and dimensions of a water softener depends upon the water hardness level, the daily amount of water used and the installation location. This will be determined during our site visit. (To read our policy on site/home visits click here).
The advantages of having a water softener installed are:
- Use up to 1/3 less detergent in your wash. Clothes are softer, cleaner, brighter and last longer!
- Dishes are cleaner with less soap and no hard water spotting !
- No scum in your tea and no staining of cups !
- Tubs, showers, sinks, toilets are easier to clean. Shower heads, pipes and immersion heaters don't block up !
- Your hair and skin will feel noticeably softer and smoother !
