Clonakilty AFC soccer club's Under13 side recorded a memorable
6-3 victory away to Temple United in the Preliminary Round of
the SFAI under13 National Cup in Cork last Saturday. A hugely
talented Clon side easily accounted for their more illustrious
Cork Schoolboys League opponents in opening round of the Cork
section of National Cup following a nine goal thriller. Clonakilty
took the lead in the 7th minute thanks to an opportunist Brian
Chan effort. Chan's cross-come-shot took a wicked deflection
off a Temple United defender giving the host's goalkeeper no
chance. The Cork side fought back and deservedly equalised shortly
afterwards. Clonakilty were not to be denied however and immediately
took control of proceedings. The AFC re-took the lead courtesy
of a fine Jack Cowhig effort. Eoin Ryan put Clon further ahead
and then Brian Chan and Cian Crowley netted to make it 5-1.
Temple United were shell-shocked but pulled another goal back
with only 10 minutes left. AFC put the icing on the cake when
Brian Chan completed his hat-trick with only 5 minutes to only
for Temple to grab a late consolation goal. The final whistle
sounded shortly afterwards and Clonakilty AFC ran out deserving
6-3 winners and now progress to the first round proper of the
Cork section of the SFAI under13 (Troy) Cup. The AFC Under13's
will be at home to either Wilton United or Waterloo in the next
round of the competition. Brian Chan, Eoin Ryan, Josh Henry
and Cian Crowley were the pick of the Clon performers in a marvellous
all round team display.

Clon AFC
draw a blank at home ot Ardfield |
Clonakilty AFC and Ardfield played out a scoreless 0-0 draw
in a West Cork League Beamish Premier Division clash in Inchydoney
last Sunday.
The visitors soaked up all the Clon pressure and nearly broke
the deadlock in the 76th minute when only the smart reactions
of Pendlebury prevented Mark Ronan from scoring. The game eventually
petered out but for a late Martin White free kick that Diarmuid
O’Donovan gathered safely. The final whistle blew shortly
afterwards and the two sides had to be content with a share
of the spoils. A solitary point from their opening two league
encounters represents a poor return for a side tipped by many
to challenge Skibbereen for their Premier League crown this
term. Next up for Clonakilty AFC is a home fixture in the Munster
Junior Cup against College Corinthians B in a fortnight.

suffer defeat in opening league game of the season |
Clonakilty AFC began their Beamish Premier
League season with a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Leeside

net for the only goal of the game. Try as they might Clonakilty
failed to breach a stubborn Leeside rearguard through a combination
of poor finishing and a succession of offside decisions. Next

the new season following a comprehensive 4-0 win over Clonakilty
AFC in the Michael Cronin Memorial Cup in Mullough, Dunmanway

full debuts to no less than five young players. Three first
half goals put the game beyond a depleted Clon AFC outfit who
