
Westport is one of two planned towns in Ireland and is one of the most attractive destinations
to visit. It is unique in its character, blending the traditional and the modern. Westport offers
a wide selection of high quality restaurants, excellent shopping facilities and lively pubs
with traditional music. For the sporty types there are numerous swimming pools and gyms
scattered around the town. There is also a top class Golf Course.

Every known species of fish existing in Irish waters has been caught in Clew Bay! Boats
can be chartered with ease for angling and cruising in one of the best locations in Europe.
For the coarse fishing enthusiasts, there are a myriad of lakes within driving distance of
Westport.
Mayo boasts some of the best salmon and brown trout in Europe with the River Moy fishery
within an hours drive.
Both advanced and less experienced fisherman are accommodated with ghillies, boats and fly
fishing instruction readily available.

Clew Bay is said to have 365 island, 'one for every day of the year'.
Clare Island, once home of the legendary pirate queen Grainne Uaile, dominates the horizon.
Ferries run daily in the summer as do ferries to Inishbofin and Inishturk.

Mayo pocesses some of the most beautiful, biggest and safest blue flag beaches in Europe and
as you would expect, there are an abundance of watersports available to the enthusiast. Choose
between swimming, scuba diving, canoeing, surfing and snorkelling.
Sailing is a must in Clew Bay, one of the most beautiful inlets around Ireland. Learn to sail
at the world famous Glenan's sailing centre at Rosmoney or try your hand at Yachting on the
picturesque sailing ground among the archipelago of islands in Clew Bay with it's 365 islands
and shallow waters.

Westport has something for all levels of walker. Take a leisurely stroll along the old railway
line or complete the demanding Western Way, hiking across the magnificent connemara mountains
and along the shores of Lough Corrib, passing Leenane village before reaching Westport. Walking
around the area, whether it's in the hills or on the roads or the marked paths on one of the 5
marked walks in and around Westport is a great pleasure.
Take in native wildlife on forest walks such as Tourmakeady Forest Trail or Nephin Beg Forest,
or travel Tochar Phadraig - the ancient pilgrim path from Ballintubber Abbey through Aughagower
to Croagh Patrick.

Close by is some of the most beautiful countryside with some of the most breathtaking scenery
you will see anywhere. Take the tour of Achill Island with it's two Atlantic drives and the
wonderful colourful Rhodedendrums in May/June, or go towards Louisburgh/Leenane down the Delphi
valley to Kylemore Abbey with all the lovely colours of the mountains, or south to Cong and
Recess to Cliften.

Mayo's only stately home is surrounded by acres of idyllic parklands. During the summer months
this is an ideal centre for a day visit for the family. There are flume rides, a children's zoo,
train rides, pitch and putt and much more.
