Puppet Show

After working for 15years as a community artist  I can offer workshops in a lot of different mediums and tailor them to any specific theme here are some examples of the workshops available that have proved successful and unique to Seán.  As part of the Puppet show you have the option to include a seasonal based workshop.

1)      Storytelling

I’ve been conducting these workshops over the past 6 years with primary School children (works best with 4th, 5th and 6th classes), teenagers and adults.

The workshop is more concerned with why rather than how? We start with a brainstorming session and what a good story needs/has then we pick out themes that are on our list and explore them.

We then discuss our opinions of stories as I ask very leading and provocative questions if time allows I would tell a story and have a question time workshops take 90minutes to 2 hours or longer and any number of people can join in.

2)      Puppet making

Workshop for younger children aged 7-10 years in a group of 10-12.  We would create a theme and very simply (using recycled materials) make some rod puppets, I will have 2 puppets myself and create a simple storyline for us to act out at end.  Workshop takes 90 minutes

3)      Family workshops

These workshops are geared are for a family group adults and children working together as a unit and could last 90 minutes to 2 hours. Numbers don’t matter as much, as adults look after each group, once people are comfortable

Type A)

Story building

We would start with a  quick chat about stories, what they are? What they need? Then we would build a story together as a group, after that we would make something or create a scene from the story.  Each family unit will work on one piece from recycled materials

Type B)

I would demonstrate how to make a simple shadow puppet and how to use it and then the family unit would create characters for a story make the puppets and after a quick rehearsal perform for each other.

4) Long term courses

I can offer a 6-8 week course for children or adults, where the participants explore and create stories and characters, and materialise those characters in to glove puppets to put on a show.

5) For Primary Schools

I am also included in the Heritage and Schools Scheme conducting Storytelling workshops
