FUN AT FUNDERLAND
Well done to 4C who recently accompanied their partners from the Gheel Institute on a day out to Funderland. The organizers of Funderland threw open their doors, free of charge, on Thursday January 10th for many handicapped groups and organizations from all over Ireland, slowing many of the rides down. It was a real pleasure to see 4th years help out so thoughtfully.

ASTRONOMY CLUB
The astronomy club's last outing was December 14th when a group numbering 20 headed up the Dublin mountains to view the annual Geminid meteor shower. Clear skies treated us to somewhere in the region of 40 meteors. We also observed the various galaxies, nebulae and clusters that were on offer.

Future events include the rare occultation of Jupiter (ie the moon passes in front of Jupiter), which will take place in the early hours of February 23rd.

The astronomy club currently meets once a month. The next meeting is on February 13. Details are also available by e-mailing gonzagaastronomy@hotmail.com. We usually have a guest speaker and, if weather permits, we go out observing. Everybody is welcome to attend the meetings.

LOST PROPERTY
Once a fortnight the accumulated lost property (which includes books, sweaters, shoes, rugby gear and even trousers!) is put on display. However, over the course of the first term we have collected so much lost property that storage is becoming a problem. A final display of the various items of clothing and educational hardware will be held on Friday 8th February after which the clothing will be laundered and donated to St Vincent de Paul. If any boy has complained of lost (or more usually stolen) property this is his chance to recover it.

DEBATING STOP PRESS!!
On Friday afternoon we received news in the College of a quite remarkable success. The Irish school's team, in Singapore for the World Student Debating Championship, beat Australia in the Final to become the first Irish World Debating champions. Barry Glynn of Sixth Year was on the team, while Leo Mulrooney of the Class of 2000 went as Irish adjudicator. Congratulations on this remarkable feat to the team and to their coach, Mr. Dick Wafer of Castleknock College. We look forward to welcoming our new champion back to school on Monday. -LD

ComputerTESCO COMPUTER TOKENS

Once again we are collecting computer tokens for Enable Ireland (formerly C.P.I.) in Sandymount. So if your family is not collecting for another school we would love you to deliver your tokens to Mrs. Collins in room 22. We will keep you informed of our progress.
