When all that is done you put a halter around the calf's head making sure you have a tight grip on the halter so the calf can't run away. The object is to lead your calf around the ring to show the judge your control of the calf and how the calf looks. Some judges look for straight legs on the calf and a good strong hindquarter. When the judge is examining the skin of the calf make sure that the calf is standing straight. The front feet should be nearly opposite each other and, at the back, the left leg should be slightly in front of the right one. In this way you are making the calf look tall.
THE DO AND DON'TS OF CALF SHOWING
DO be on time and if the show starts at 10 a.m. be there at 10 a.m.
DON'T be impatient with your animal. The show
stick is for showing, not for beating your animal with.
DON'T make a display of bad temper in the show ring.
DO be nice to your opponent.
DON'T pass out a slow animal in front of you. Instead, gently help it along.
DO put your rosette on before leaving the ring, but don't hold up the show.
DON'T leave the rosette on the calf when coming back for the champion class.
ALWAYS congratulate your opponents on their placing.
