Original Hedgerow, Leg 2.

 

Bright but sub-zero all day in the shade.

Despite the frost, we still have wasps foraging on the Ivy (the only real source of nectar at this time of year). Most are males (long antennae).

 

The ivy is also a hunting-ground for the Yellow Dungfly. This one had just caught a smaller fly and sat eating it for a moment or two.

I noticed a few Willow leaf-buds had formed and were showing a trace of green.

 

The still air encouraged clouds of mosquitos to form. These seem to be mostly males (feathery antennae). Notice that they all face in the same direction, presumably facing into the wind.
