High deforested area.

Dull, windy and very cold.

A few Spruce logs were left over about 3 years ago and they are a constant source of fungal images. This is a new (to me) resupinate fungus about 5 cm across and only 2 mm thick. Looks like it's Heterobasidion annosum. Whilst it looks like a crusting fungus, some polypores take different forms depending on whether the wood/log is horizontal or vertical. So in this case the log is horizontal, and the fruit body lies exposed facing upwards. If the wood is vertical, then the top edge flips downwards, forming a bracket. The bracket form was shown on 8th October 2004
