Steeple Wood.

Below zero most of the day, but with some sun.

There are a couple of vertical rock-faces that host some interesting species. The tiny green fern just below centre of the picture is the only specimen of Black Spleenwort - Asplenium adiantum-nigrum - that I had found locally. The red leaves below that belong to a Tutsan plant and the thick stem to the right is Ivy. Then I found a little crevice as deep as my arm....

At the back of the crevice I found another two specimens of Black Spleenwort and a little fungus, maybe a Cortinarius.

One of the old forestry fence-posts has a lichen and moss eco-system on the top. These are the fruiting bodies of a Cladonia, maybe C. macilenta or C. polydactyla. Two specimens together about 1 cm. tall.

Two shots of Parmotrema perlata. The right-hand image shows a sick specimen.

I was looking for fungi on this Larch cone and I spotted the tiny larva crawling across the top. It must be frost hardy.
