Spruce forestry which has recently been thinned and prepared for
harvesting.
Wet and miserable. |
There's an ancient Hawthorn that overhangs a deep, fast-flowing stream. It's always good for a few pictures.
Some of the haws stay on their stalks and just dry out, rather than falling. I wonder if they're host to some insect or other parasite. |
This area has been the subject of extensive forestry work recently. Spruce trees have been thinned by clearing wide strips the length of the plantation. There is a lot of oil and woody debris. I wonder if these lichens are reacting to pollution, because they're normally very healthy. |
I've been getting through a back-log of moss identifications. This is the last of my commonly-seen ones that remains unidentified. Always on wood, and fairly short-lived, I think. |
Another lichen from the Hawthorn. Parmelia caperata, based on the colour.
