Spruce forestry which has recently been thinned and prepared for harvesting.

Wet and miserable.

There's an ancient Hawthorn that overhangs a deep, fast-flowing stream. It's always good for a few pictures.

Some of the haws stay on their stalks and just dry out, rather than falling. I wonder if they're host to some insect or other parasite.

This area has been the subject of extensive forestry work recently. Spruce trees have been thinned by clearing wide strips the length of the plantation. There is a lot of oil and woody debris. I wonder if these lichens are reacting to pollution, because they're normally very healthy.

I've been getting through a back-log of moss identifications. This is the last of my commonly-seen ones that remains unidentified. Always on wood, and fairly short-lived, I think.

Another lichen from the Hawthorn. Parmelia caperata, based on the colour.
