Lough Erne, Co. Fermanagh.

Dull but dry.

The Hazel catkins have opened after appearing about 6 weeks ago. The tiny female flowers won't appear for a few weeks, yet. I wonder why there's such a gap.

Two berries: Tutsan on the left and what must be Cotoneaster frigidus - Tree Cotoneaster. The leaves are about 15 cm. long and pink/downy underneath. Often bird-sown.

This lichen was quite frequent on rocks along the shore of the Lough. Patch shown about 2 cm. across.

This is Piptoporus betulinus - the Birch Polypore, or Razorstrop fungus. This can be used as kindling, and was identified in the pouch of the neolithic man found frozen in the Alps. Specimen about 15 cm. across.
