Local verge.

 

Bright but cold.

I'd heard of Otters locally, but hadn't yet seen any. Imagine my disappointment when I found this specimen lying at the roadside about 200m from my home. The nearest decent stretch of water would be about 2 miles from this spot.

The specimen was largely undamaged, so I took time to examine those fascinating feet. The surprisingly thick webbing can just be seen at the lower edge of the upper foot.

A sad find.
